With funding from a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (www.epa.gov/brownfields/job.htm), the Charleston Environmental Job Training project brings together local partners to provide environmental technician job training to residents in the Charleston area free of course tuition fees. Since April 2001, this program has successfully trained over 50 participants, 75 percent of which have been placed in new jobs, advanced in their current position or went on to pursue educational opportunities. A New Training Class is About to Begin The Charleston Environmental Job Training project is offering a new round of free job training for selected residents in the Charleston Area. The training will provide prospective students the opportunity to acquire the technical skills and certifications to become an Environmental Technician. Each student will be trained in health and safety (general industry), hazardous waste operations, asbestos abatement, mold remediation, handling and shipping of hazardous materials and wastewater operations. The environmental training will be provided by the Trident Technical College and the Trident One Stop Career System will provide basic support services and job placement assistance. Classes will be held May 23 through July 11, 2005. Anyone 18 years of age or older interested in participating in the training must attend one of four orientation sessions.
