According to a recent survey by the National League of Cities, municipal governments are seeing a
rising demand for “survival” social services such as food, shelter and clothing. With federal,
state and local governments facing increasing budgetary pressures, many regions are seeing the important
role that local Faith-Based and Community Organizations (FBCO) can play in the delivery of vital social
services. FBCOs can help local governments stretch their budgetary funds by leveraging the energy and
impact of these volunteer organizations.
Concurrent Technologies Corporation (CTC) was one of the first organizations to receive
funding from President Bush’s Faith-based and Community Initiative to provide training and technical
assistance to FBCOs (see our former project site at
www.e-ctc.com/community for more information and
free resources). This project developed our internal capacity in research, strategic planning,
technical assistance and training related to FBCO initiatives.
Today, CTC works with FBCOs on a number of diverse projects such as job training programs and
brownfields redevelopment initiatives. These organizations provide a vital role in project implementation.
At the same time, CTC continues to provide consulting, training and technical assistance services
directly to select FBCOs. CTC can also partner with local governments to appropriately integrate
these FBCOs in the delivery of public social services.
