Local governments are facing an ever-increasing problem of traffic congestion in and around their
communities. Capital-intensive roadway improvements that increase capacity are typically insufficient to
satisfy the rapidly-rising demand of commuters in major urban centers. At the same time, low-income
residents in rural areas face significant basic access challenges.
Concurrent Technologies Corporation (CTC) assists local governments in understanding their
community’s transportation needs, assess Transportation
Demand Management (TDM) and Intelligent Transportation
System (ITS) options, and design programs to improve transit and transportation services.
CTC has worked with both large cities and rural communities to examine and address transportation
challenges.
For example, with funds from the Economic Development Administration (EDA), CTC worked with
a regional government, city officials, and other stakeholder groups to
assist with transportation planning related to the development of a large industrial site. CTC
conducted an assessment of the community’s travel patterns, assessed TDM options, and designed a new transit
route.
In another project, CTC analyzed the capabilities of several major cities in the Southeast to
support the implementation of in-vehicle dynamic route guidance systems.
CTC also assisted a rural region to develop and deploy a volunteer-based transportation system
that ensures basic access to health services for its low-income residents.
