Workforce Development

In today’s knowledge-based economy, a region’s workforce is a critical factor in attracting, retaining and growing local businesses. However, many recent high school graduates and transitioning workers do not have the requisite skills to meet the workforce needs of the 21st Century. These skill-gaps can cripple a region’s ability to sustain economic development.

Concurrent Technologies Corporation (CTC) seeks to address these regional skill-gaps through innovative education and training programs. CTC brings together local industry leaders, government representatives, education professionals and community members to develop training programs that address a region’s workforce skill-gaps and match training with actual job requirements. Below are a few of our innovative training programs.

Systems Analyst Training
In response to a statewide software workforce assessment with significant industry input, CTC launched a pilot training program in partnership with a local technical college and software developers association. The program addressed the critical skill-gaps of software professionals and included training in project management, business communication and systems analysis.

Transportation Operator Training
CTC partnered with the Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (MARTA) and the Atlanta Workforce Development Agency (AWDA) to implement a training program for Atlanta area residents to become bus drivers. Participants received training in customer service, map reading, as well as standard bus operational procedures. The program was developed in response to a critical shortage of operators in the region. All graduates of the program have been placed in jobs with MARTA.

Environmental Technician Training
Working with the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), Trident Technical College, the City of Charleston, Charleston County DSS and the local One-Stop Career Center CTC developed a certificate-based program and trained over 60 local residents to become environmental technicians. The program was developed with funds from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). CTC has subsequently expanded this program to two other regions.
